Schools in Jammu and Kashmir are now preparing to introduce Sanskrit as an optional subject till class VIII. Till now, Sanskrit is taught in schools from class IX to XII. The School Education Department has asked the Director of School Education of both the divisions the number and other information of students taking Sanskrit in class 9 to 12.Have asked. On behalf of the Joint Director of School Education Department, Madan Gopal Sharma, by sending separate letters to the Director of Education, Jammu and Kashmir, it has been said that Sanskrit is to be implemented as an optional and language subject from class I to VIII.

For this a draft has to be prepared. The department has sought information from both the directors on three points. It has been asked to state how many higher and higher secondary schools are teaching Sanskrit. Sanctioned posts of Sanskrit teachers and how many teachers are working. What is the number of students registered in Sanskrit subject in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th.

Information on these three points has been asked to be given at the earliest. Sources said that after receiving the letter from the School Education Department, the Office of the Director of Education, Jammu has asked all Chief Education Officers (CEOs) to send the information within three days. Sources said that after getting information from both the divisions, the department will start the process of implementing Sanskrit up to class VIII.
